Hardware and Software

Today the computer is the most technologically advanced device exploited throughout the world. This is a big help for people in every area of life. This is important in medicine, aviation, scientific and technological fields, finance, etc. We are beginning to communicate with our friends and relatives, find the data we need quickly to engage in relationships, to learn about other cultures, to be well informed on domestic and foreign affairs, and so on and so forth. Thus, we are largely dependent on computers in our lives.

Thus, it is able to perform several functions at the same time; it has a very complicated structure. Two key words are usually mentioned when talking about the computer: hardware and software.

Equipment includes virtually all devices on your computer, such as a motherboard with processor, power supply, video display controller, removable media (floppy, CD-ROM / Writer, DVD-ROM / write), internal storage devices (e.g. hard disk) , sound card, external components of a computer system (input and output devices). Equipment is something tangible, because hardware devices are material.

To make the device work with the appropriate software package needed to take control of your device. In comparison with the hardware, software is immaterial, and includes programs, data, protocols, etc. Software is usually placed on the hard disk and run the operating system to perform these functions.

Device drivers are computer programs that are designed to interact with devices. A driver typically communicates with the hardware device through the computer bus or communications subsystem that is connected to equipment. When the caller is a set of instructions to the driver, the driver gives the command to the device. Receiving data from the device, the driver calls the procedures in the calling program. In fact, the driver is designed to simplify programming operating as an abstraction layer between hardware and the application or operating system, which uses it. Thus, it depends on the hardware and operating system specific.

Words and embedded software have much in common and may be interchangeable in some cases. In general, the firmware is a specific type of software, which normally deals with low-level operations in a hardware device, without which the device will not work.

As seen from the above mentioned, hardware and software make up a complete unit and, thus, cannot operate on their own.
